Silent Voices / Israel is a video installation and consists of two separate screens. Both screens hang next to each other. One screen shows a musician playing the Israeli national anthem on her violin, the other screen shows a musician playing the Hatikva on a traditional Oriental instrument, the oud. The use of the musical instruments refers to their cultural roots and is a metaphor for the cultural war being waged within Israeli society between the dominant Ashkenazi culture and the Mizrahi population. The video (20min) is shown in loop.
